For those that don’t know, “al-afw” is a way to say “you’re welcome” in Arabic. Hmm. Wow. So it begins…

Ackbar?
Star Wars reference?
September 28th, 2008 at 12:01 am
How is Ackbar a Star Wars reference? Allahu Akbar means “God is Great” or “God is the Greatest” Not crappy Star Wars…

no kylixer, allahu akbar is arabic for god is great its what the terrorists yell before suicide bombings

Actually Toby, I think its important to remember that allahu akbar is a MUSLIM saying, and therefore is not restricted to terrorists in its usage, just as terrorism is not restricted to Islam-but has unfortunately become a part of every major religion. Nearly all of the time allahu akbar is not used as the last words of extremists but is used in prayer, appreciation, and thanksgiving. It is (for the most part) meant to convey the belief that every atom in existence is sacred and beautiful, but the hand that created it infinitely more so. I find it tragic that media and propaganda have turned such an important religious phrase into something that people associate with terrorism.

Well said. I’m glad you took the time to set the record straight Rachel.
