I was a Republican from the time I could vote in 1988 thru 2004 when I switched over to a Democrat. (was also a Marine who served in the 1st Gulf War) I switched because I was really not liking the direction the Republicans were going in and how John Kerry was "swift boated" during the '04 campaign. Funny, I haven't noticed the same "swift boating" of John McCain, but when they do bring up his policies or Palins lack of experience the Republicans cry: "LIBERAL MEDIA BIAS!!!" But the more I think about it, it's not about being a Republican or Democrat, it's all about being an American (I know that sounds so cliche) and the fact that one party in charge for so long is not a good idea. If Al Gore had been President for these past 8 years, we'd have had a Democrat in the White House for 16 years...then maybe it would be time for change. (This also highly depends on who was running and how things like the economy and such) Vice President Lieberman vs Unknown Republican? Maybe it would be time for change...maybe... I think I see where this is heading...and I think it's going to be great! Very depressed watching Meet the Press this morning....McCain/Palin ahead in a lot of polls...Let's look back 8 years: End of the Clinton Administration, deficit low, unemployment low, economy doing well and Al Gore looses (although it seems like he didn't but that's another story). Now, end of the Bush Administration: HUGE deficit, unemployment alot higher, economy tanking and yet Obama not ahead in the polls, possibly heading for a loss. The number of people I've talked to who won't vote for Obama because of the color of his skin is so disturbing. The young people have to pull through this time, I mean REALLY HAVE TO VOTE! Not just say who their for and not actually go and push the ballot button. Really good!
